Who is the Lazy Athlete?
Well my name is Brian Berg and, as the tagline says, I’m the Ultimate Armchair QB. Sports, particularly those taking place in Philadelphia, have always been a huge part of my life.
My first true sports memories came in 1993 when I followed the Phillies all the way to the World Series. Little did I know then that the crushing end to that season would be a familiar feeling. As the near misses piled up for all the city’s teams, I began to feel like it was no coincidence that the year I was born was the last time the city saw a championship.
That is until the fall of 2008; when the Phillies finally broke through. In a way, I’d come full circle. My sports anguish began and ended with the Phils. Of course, I wouldn’t be a true sports fan (In Philadelphia, especially) if I didn’t complain about something. So, as nice as that Phillies ride was, there are three other teams that are still eligible to receive my scorn. And, hell, the Phillies will probably be added back to that group soon enough.
Besides sports, my interests vary greatly. I went to school for Architecture, and like so many, I am not utilizing my degree to a level that would satisy the amount I’m paying for student loans. The field does interest me still though. I love music and movies in just about all genres. I love the internet, and how it gives everyone a voice; no matter what their social status is. I’m into politics, and I hate the current system. If only our government (or any government for that matter) was more like the internet, then we’d have a true democracy. That’s enough of that.
