Flyers’ Season Ends with More Questions than Answers

For the third time in the last four seasons the Flyers have failed to advance past the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And for the second year in a row, they’ve been ousted by the Pittsburgh Penguins. All the pieces seem to be in place for the Flyers - and to be fair, they were much more competitive against the Pens this season than last - but they’re golfing now and the Pens are moving on. What does this team need to get over the hump?

Flyers Doing More than Staying Alive

With Martin Biron’s 3-0 shutout of the Penguins in game 5 of their first round playoff series (a perfect answer to Marc-Andre Fleury’s brilliant game 4 performance), the Flyers kept their season alive, forcing a return to Philadelphia for game 6 in the process.

Fleury Steals Game 4 for Penguins

The Flyers needed to at least match their level of intensity from their game 3 victory in order to win game 4 and tie the series at 2-2. They did. But the series is still going back to Pittsburgh with the Penguins one win away from the second round.
